A Special Person

By: Hubert Crowell

Have you ever known a person who works hard, volunteers without question and seeks no recognition? Debbie Erwin is always at her husband's side, supporting him in all that he does.

Debbie will step in and help out wherever there is a need, teaching Sunday School, replanting and weeding the church grounds and with her husband directing our living Nativity each year.

So many volunteers go unnoticed and seek no attention that we tend to take them for granted. This happens more often when someone is quiet. I think that we need to always be on the look out for people like this, to make sure that we say, "thank you" from time to time.

So on this 16th day of December I would like to wish Debbie Erwin a happy birthday and thank her for the many things she has done. Our Church and community are a better place because of Debbie.

Do you know someone like Debbie? If so seek them out and tell them Thank You, those two words can mean more to a person in most cases than money or gifts. Thank of what our world would be like without volunteers. Each time you see someone working at a church, hospital or other public place, ask yourself, could that person be a volunteer?

We have no way of knowing what someone may be giving up when they volunteer. They could be working on their own projects or spending time on their hobbies and things that most of us spend our time on. But when someone volunteers, they unselfishly set aside those things and do something that will make life more pleasant for others.
